Quality of Life

Choosing a business location is often affected by the quality of life provided to both owners and employees. With many different and diverse cultural and recreational opportunities, as well as entertainment and social experiences that far exceed what one might anticipate in a community of the size and scale of Greater Charlottesville, the lifestyle afforded to those who live here is unsurpassed. Complementing this lifestyle is the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and an outstanding healthcare system that enables people to receive whatever treatment they might need to continue to enjoy the many amenities that the area offers.

Home to past presidents Jefferson, Madison and Monroe; the region is rich in historical heritage, while the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Skyline Drive provide a picturesque playground for hiking, skiing, cycling, golf, camping or canoeing.

The University of Virginia, besides conducting world recognized research in many fields, hosts numerous educational, cultural and sporting events. Ranked as one of the top two public universities in the country, the University has also achieved much success in athletics as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Charlottesville has a thriving open-air mall that is marked by restaurants with outside dining, coffee shops, motion picture and live performance theaters, art galleries and a variety of businesses. Elsewhere in the region there are wineries that are open to the public, outside operas and musical plays performed at Ashlawn, home of James Monroe, and steeplechase races that are run at Foxfield and Montpelier, home of James Madison.
Held in March each year, the Virginia Festival of the Book enables the public to attend readings and presentations by well known authors, while the Virginia Film Festival, held each fall, attracts thousands of people who attend showings and events that highlight themes reflected in movies past and present.
The University of Virginia Health Sciences Center and Martha Jefferson Hospital anchor the healthcare services that are available to those living in the region. The University of Virginia Hospital, with more than 600 beds, is a Level One trauma center and is rated as one of the top 100 hospitals in the country.

In recent years many publications have recognized the region for its many outstanding qualities.
